SDCVS Volunteer Awards 2024

The SDCVS Volunteer 2024 Awards took place in September.

This was a fantastic opportunity for us to recognise and honour some of the heroes in our community, and for them to share the stories behind their amazing, selfless work.

Our Volunteer of the Year for 2024 is Steve, who has shown incredible ongoing passion, enthusiasm, and dedication to not only South Derbyshire CVS, but to the service users he supports. His warm, friendly, compassionate, reassuring, and caring nature and his dedication to the support of others shines through, and this is demonstrated consistently in the feedback we receive about him from those he supports. He not only supports our Active Travel service but also has taken on the task of food collection for our food bank.

Not only is Steve one of our most committed, and in-demand volunteer drivers, he consistently contributes ideas and suggestions to help develop the service. Nothing is ever too much trouble, and whenever we reach out for his support at short notice he is always there.

Congratulations and thank you Steve!

Two of the other volunteers to receive awards were Community Ambassador, Keelie Briggs, and the winner of our Community Ambassador Award 2024, Joan.

Keelie goes above and beyond championing South Derbyshire CVS to her social media followers and local businesses. Her support is heartfelt and genuine. She has introduced many local businesses to our charity who have since gone on to support us. She is somebody who clearly cares deeply about the community and chooses to go out of her way to help us connect with more people. She also recently presented us with generous donations of fresh produce after seeing a shout-out from the food bank. The unconditional support she continues to give SDCVS is overwhelming and greatly appreciated

Joan has been a Community Connector from the beginning and has played a vital role in sharing important information on COVID-19 from trusted sources. Since then, she has supported our changing network and embraced it all by continuing to share vital public information through the recovery from COVID-19 and more recently the cost-of-living crisis. She would attend meetings and share comments and questions from residents within her community to obtain answers to ensure everyone was well-informed and supported. Alongside this, she has consistently gone above and beyond to personally support residents in her community.

Congratulations and thank you to Keelie and Joan!
